The
Role of an Elder |
| Shepherd |
Acts 20:28-31; Titus 1:55-59; 1 Peter 5:1-4; John 21:15-17
|
|
In
accordance with Biblical standards, we believe the primary role
of an Elder is that of "shepherd." Our model for this
is found in the person of Jesus, who taught the thousands, led the
70, invested his life in the 12, and mentored 3 of those. We see
shepherding as what Jesus did with the 70 and discipling what he
did with the 12. Each of our Elders is responsible for shepherding
a group of the congregation. |

the "Keys to the Kingdom" |
Matthew 16:19 |

Our
Elders are charged with interviewing all prospective church members
after their completion of the Inquirers class. |
| Prayer

James 5:13-15 |
|
The
Elders meet regularly for prayer. If you would like to meet with
some of our elders for prayer, call the church office, 770/973-4114,
or e-mail lisa@ecpca.org . |

Ruling |
Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5 |
|
Our
Elders serve as the ruling body of the church. They serve as the
church board of directors, making policy decisions, protecting
our theological purity, and approving the strategic direction
of the church as set by the Senior Pastor. They both oversee and
protect the Senior Pastor in his role as leader. |
Who
They Are
ECPC's elders are men of integrity who meet the Biblical standards of
1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. They are nominated by the church body, undergo
oral examination, then an extensive 12-week theological and leadership
training course, then an examination in written and oral form again.
Finally, they must be elected to the office by the church body.
OUR
DEACONS
ECPC's
deacons are also men of integrity who meet the Biblical standards of
1 Timothy 3 and
Titus 1. They are nominated by the church body, undergo oral examination,
then an extensive 12-week theological and leadership training course,
then an examination in written and oral form again. Finally, they must
be elected to the office by the church body.
The
Role of Deacon
In general, deacons attend to certain physical needs of the church body.
They addresses
personal, financial and other physical needs; maintain the church
facilities; and oversee the financial condition of the church.
Deacons serve on a three-year rotating basis.
